【学子风采】我校学子设计的环保旗帜到达南极 | Our Student's Work in Antarctica
2020年12月1日是南极洲日,我们的科学老师Ms. Megan Berkle邀请七年级的学生设计旗帜,请科学家送到南极。此举的目的是让学生意识到保护南极洲大陆的重要性。
我们七年级的学生Kelly Wang接受了这个挑战。她设计旗子到达了南极,并刚刚返回到学校。她设计的旗子由海洋生物学家Nadia Frontier高高举起,并在南极Lagoon Island拍摄合照。

December 1, 2020 was Antarctica Day! Our Science teacher Ms. Megan Berkle from Nord Anglia School Guangzhou Panyu challenged Grade 7 students to design flags to send to the South Pole with the scientists. The flags were to teach students about the importance of conserving and preserving the continent of Antarctica.
Our Grade 7 student Kelly Wang took up the challenge and her flag went to the south pole and just made it back. Her flag was photographed with BAS Marine Biologist Nadia Frontier on Lagoon Island, Antarctica.
这面呼吁环保的旗子长途跋涉,穿越的半个地球。在疫情的影响下,今年只有几艘船前往南极洲。科学家们从每所参与活动的学校各选择了一面旗帜作为代表。Kelly 设计的旗帜代表广州诺校来到了南极大陆。
通过这项活动,Kelly 认识了南极洲,了解了海洋生物的多样性,人们正在如何倡导保护南极大陆,并且为南极大陆做了哪些事情。

It went such an extraordinary distance and journey and still made it even during the world pandemic. This year only a few ships went to Antarctica due to Covid-19. The scientists only took one flag from each school. Kelly's was the flag that represented our school.
Students in Grade 7 learned that about the location of Antarctica, biodiversity of marine life, and what actions are being taken to educate others on what is being done to protect Antarctica.

为什么参与到这个活动中?
“Why did you participate in this event?”
“在科学课上,老师跟我们介绍了全球变暖的趋势,我了解到,如果冰雪融化了,企鹅就会因为失去家园濒临灭绝。我想用这副画来呼吁大家保护南极,保护企鹅的家园。”

“In the science class, the teacher introduced to us the trend of global warming, and I learned that if the snow and ice melt, the penguins will be on the verge of extinction because they lose their homes. I want to use this flag to call on people to protect the Antarctic, to protect the penguin.”

你是从公立小学毕业后到这里读初中的,学习一个多学期后觉得这里跟期待中的学校一样吗?
“You came here after you graduated from public elementary school, and after more than a semester, did you find it was the same as you expected?”
“我觉得有一点点不一样。我一开始以为学习的压力会很大,但是发现在这里学习更快乐更自由。
学习的内容非常丰富,有很多课是我在原来的学校里没有接触过的,比如舞蹈、戏剧等。
这里的同学多才多艺,各个领域都有很厉害的同学,从他们身上我学到了很多。”

"I think it's a little bit different. At first, I thought the pressure of study would be great, but I found that studying here is more enjoyable and free.
The learning content is very rich, and there are many courses that I have not been exposed to in the original school, such as dance, drama and so on.
The students here are very versatile. There are excellent students in all fields. I have learned a lot from them.”

目前你最喜欢哪门课?觉得哪门课比较难??
“Which subject do you like best so far? Which subject do you find difficult?”
“我最喜欢语文课。在这里学语文方式是多种多样的,有小组讨论、演绎剧本等方式,这种方式让我们更生动地理解课文。
目前我觉得英文数学课比较难,因为既要懂得数学知识,又要明白专业的术语。科学课也有很多专业的词汇要学会用英语去表达。”

"I like Chinese best. There are many ways to learn Chinese here, such as group discussion, drama which makes us understand the text more vividly.
At present, I think English math class is quite difficult, because we need to understand both mathematical knowledge and professional terminology. Science classes also have a lot of professional vocabulary that we need to express in English.”

未来你想在哪些方面进一步提升?
“What areas do you want to improve in the future?”
“我希望在学术方面强化自己的优势,在艺术方面有进一步的提升。
同时,我希望能进一步提升自己的英语能力,摆脱 “Chinglish”。同时,要向其他同学学习如何多角度的看待问题,改变自己的思维方式。”

"I hope to strengthen my advantages in the academic field and make further improvement in the Art field.
At the same time, I hope to further improve my English ability and get rid of "Chinglish". At the same time, I should learn from other students how to look at problems from multiple perspectives and change my way of thinking.”
